Saturday at the Javits Center. The lines were long and two CG girls were suffering from serious lack of sleep. We couldn't even elbow people out of the way for the Batman figures being tossed into the crowd. We were tired, but determined. And we had a goal.

1. Find someone in a good TDK Joker costume,
2. Outwit DC/WB at their own game.

New York Comic Con promised us something, we were sure of it. We just weren't sure what. There was nothing on the schedule indicating that TDK would have any sort of presence at the Con, though we hoped the rumors of 'something' were turn into more than just an Internet hoax.

The crowds were massive, and didn't seem to disburse no matter what part of the Con we were in. Our hunt for Batman took us first to the larger booths, located in the middle of all the chaos.

Mattel had a relatively large display, and to be honest looked like it was shilling more for TDK than DC was. The Joker teaser poster was front and center, and more than a few people stopped to get a picture with it. Probably our favorite figure was one we dubbed "Businessman Joker" - complete with briefcase of 'tricks' - look for it in our gallery.

The DC booth was large, but TDK's presence relatively low key. A few figures from DC Direct graced the locked cases, and our first-hand look at the figures makes us think that pictures don't do them justice. They are a lot more impressive in person. The DC booth did have both the theatrical trailer and the trailer for 'Gotham Knight" playing on repeat and there were more than a few people who stopped and stared, memorized, in spite of all the noise around them. There also were a few 'new' Joker figures to line up with the re-issue of The Killing Joke, and we ooh'ed and ah'ed over those as well.

However, the most interesting piece of material we saw at the DC booth was a plain white flyer, letting us know that DC/WB's presentation at 4pm was strictly "no camera, no taping." Hmm.

So being the nosy and forward people we are, we asked the woman behind the booth if they were going to be doing anything related to TDK at the panel. "Yes, that's for Batman." came the empathic reply.

Bingo.

I won't bore you with the rest our day, leading up to the main event, but we did manage to catch an excellent TDK Joker - he'd obviously spent a lot of time and care with his outfit, right down to the octagonal shirt. Excellent work, kid. Mr. J would be proud.

In order to position ourselves for whatever WB and DC had in store, we got to the panels early. We sat through a hilarious Hellboy panel with our new baby-daddy, Gullermio del Toro, who has to be one of the most honest, and refreshingly candid mainstream filmmakers we've heard from in a while. We appreciated the fact he'd rather work on low-budget non-Hollywood movie where he maintains control. We also gave him much love for pulling people in for PA work and Creature design from unsolicited e-mails. Hey, sometimes people need a leg up in life, right?

We sat through a snoozefest of a Hulk panel. (Note to directors - Don't ever call your score "As good as Star Wars." in mixed company.) And to be honest, not that impressed with the trailer, either. Good thing we don't run a Hulk fansite.

Things were running late, but there was a definite 'feel' to the room after the Hulk panel ended. Things were set up, and we waited. We were buoyed by the fact that the emcee had mentioned that WB had *two* surprises coming up. Well, we were hoping against hope that one of those was TDK and that the woman upstairs hadn't fed us with bum information.

We expected them to lead with TDK. But no. Speed Racer. Okay, cool. We weren't feeling it, but the trailer was nice, and it seemed to be well received.

We've heard that some people got up and left after Speed Racer. We're really, really sorry. No, we aren't laughing, either. We were close to skipping out too, until Paul D. showed up, and we knew then that Batman was going to finally have a presence at the Con. The applause and noise of the crowd were easily the loudest they had been all day.

Now, most of you have heard bits and pieces and some of you, a full-on breakdown of the trailer. We won't get into that here. We're good little girls, and follow all rules and regulations set forth by DC and WB. But that would go all out of the window if Mr. J told us otherwise. So...

We were surprised, and taken aback. And probably a little misty. A cry of "RIP Heath!" echoed through the theater as the lights dimmed. It seemed fitting in a way. It was nice to see that outside of our little world, Heath is revered.

This trailer was definitely more Dent/Wayne/Dawes heavy. A good way to get the flip side of what else this movie is about. Is Nolan going for a love triangle? Who knows. But this trailer certain sets up Harvey Dent well, and falls right in line with the virals that have been going on. Though we'd be remiss if we didn't say that the new Joker material we saw just cemented the fact that Heath acted the fuck out of this role, It was bittersweet, and it was difficult to watch, but we're proud of our boy and it was good to be around so many people who felt the same way.

All in all, we left pretty satisfied and happy. We had hoped for maybe Nolan to show, but I guess it wasn't in the cards.

Look for pictures of our adventures at Comic Con in the Gallery shortly!

We hope everyone today had fun hunting around and getting a chance to see the trailer. For the rest of you, let's hope it goes online tonight. (We're hearing 9pm.) We'd love to hear what you think!
