New Heath Interview from IESB.net - Heath talks Chalk, Cheese and Comics

A great interview has been posted on IESB.net. We're keeping our eyes open for the full interview, and we'll be sure to ask Mr. J to put the video on his blog. While primarily the interview discusses I'm Not There, there are a few choice comments about his preparation for playing The Joker:

I really don't know. It's like chalk and cheese. My preparation process for this and my process for the Joker are completely different. I mean, for the Joker I locked myself away in a hotel room for six weeks. I just formulated a voice and a posture and found a real psychology behind the Joker. I really put a lot of work into it. And the experience also on a production scale, by the way, is obviously a completely different shoot. Batman is just such a machine. It's huge and I've never worked on anything that big."

New Heath Interview - Joker's Total Lack of Empathy

A short but great blog entry about how Heath views his portrayal of the Joker has been posted on MTV's movie blog:

So who is The Joker we'll meet next summer? "He has zero empathy," Ledger said, adding that one of the goals for this character was to scare the crap out of audiences next year. Asked about the inspiration for the performance and Ledger cited nothing less than classic Kubrick. "'A Clockwork Orange' was a very early starting point for Christian [Bale] and I. But we kind of flew far away from that pretty quickly and into another world altogether."

Heath adds:

"There's a bit of everything in him. There's nothing that consistent."

New TDK Spoilers - The Joker's Army

Latino Review has the scoop on just how we'll be introduced to The Joker in TDK:

The Dark Knight begins with the Joker robbing a huge bank (we've seen photos of this everywhere). The bank is where the mob and all the gangs in Gotham keep all of their money. The Joker takes this money and holds it "ransom". The Joker then says to the mob and the gangs of Gotham, "If you help me take down Batman, you'll get your money back. If not, I'm going to burn it all." This is how the Joker assembles his army to take down Batman.

LatinoReview has been pretty on with its spoilers and information so far, so this is very exciting news. The idea of kidnapping all the mafia's money is a brilliant tactic. Good one, Mr. J!

From The New York Times Dear Diary...

A great article Heath article has appeared in the New York Times wbere Heath discusses, among other things, his love of chess, and his secret Joker diary.

He is here in London filming the latest episode of the "Batman" franchise, The Dark Knight. (Mr. Bale, as it happens, plays Batman; Mr. Ledger plays the Joker.) It is a physically and mentally draining role - his Joker is a "psychopathic, mass-murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy" he said cheerfully - and, as often happens when he throws himself into a part, he is not sleeping much.

He carries his interests around with him, and his kitchen table was awash in objects: a chess set, assorted books, various empty glasses, items of clothing. Here too was his Joker diary, which he began compiling four months before filming began. It is filled with images and thoughts helpful to the Joker back story, like a list of things the Joker would find funny. (AIDS is one of them.) Mr. Ledger seemed almost embarrassed that the book had been spotted, as if he had been caught trying to get extra credit in school.

Heath has obviously thrown himself into the character. The girls at CG would KILL to get that diary, so Heath, if you're out there, throw us a few clues. We love games!
